Overview
This free PDF to JPG converter renders each page of a document as an image. Choose JPG or PNG, pick a resolution, export every page or a range, and download the images one at a time or as a single zip.
It is worth knowing what conversion costs before running it. A PDF page is a set of drawing instructions — text is stored as text, lines as lines — which is why it stays sharp at any zoom and why its words can be searched and copied. An image is a fixed grid of pixels. Converting is a one-way step: the text becomes a picture of text, and nothing can get it back.
That trade is exactly right when the destination is a slide, a social post, a website or a preview thumbnail, all of which want a picture. It is the wrong step for anything someone still has to read as a document, and splitting the PDF is almost always the better answer there.

Background
A PDF describes a page rather than depicting it. It says which glyphs to draw in which font at which position, where the vector shapes go, and where any embedded images sit. A viewer executes those instructions afresh every time you open or zoom the document, which is why a PDF is equally sharp on a phone and on a billboard.
Rasterising executes those instructions once, at a size you choose, and keeps only the result. What comes out is a grid of pixels with no memory of having been text. That is why an exported page cannot be searched, copied from, or read aloud by a screen reader, and why zooming past the resolution you picked shows the pixels rather than more detail.
Resolution is therefore the whole decision, and it is measured in dots per inch. A PDF point is one seventy-second of an inch, so the maths is direct: at 72 DPI a page renders at exactly its point size, at 150 DPI at just over twice that, and at 300 DPI at roughly four times. Because the work is two-dimensional, that last step is not four times the effort but sixteen — an A4 page at 300 DPI is about 8.7 million pixels.
This is also why file sizes climb so quickly, and why the format matters. JPEG throws away detail the eye is poor at noticing, which suits photographs and produces small files. PNG keeps every pixel exactly, which suits text, diagrams and screenshots — JPEG puts visible fuzz around sharp edges, and a page of small type is nothing but sharp edges. The cost of PNG is size, often several times a JPEG of the same page.
One detail catches people out. JPEG has no transparency, so a page rendered onto an untouched canvas encodes as solid black rather than white. Filling the canvas white first is not optional, and a converter that skips it produces exactly the black pages people occasionally report from other tools.

If anyone will search, copy or extract from the result, images are the wrong output. This is the single most common reason a conversion is regretted, and it cannot be undone afterwards without OCR.

Rendering is proportional to the page, so an A0 poster at 300 DPI is enormous where an A6 flyer is trivial. Large-format documents usually want a lower resolution than the same setting on A4.

How the images will be named
Output is named after the source with the page number appended and zero-padded, so a folder of them sorts correctly. Fine as a default and worth renaming before sending to anyone.

Slides want pictures, not embedded documents. Exporting the pages you need at 150 DPI and dropping them in is faster than trying to reproduce a designed page, and it looks exactly like the original because it is the original.
Platforms take images and mostly do not take PDFs. A one-page flyer or a report cover becomes a post by way of a single export, and 150 DPI is comfortably enough for any screen.
Documentation previews, thumbnails and catalogue images all start as a page in a PDF. Exporting at a controlled resolution gives a consistent set, which screenshots never do.
Some workflows want images rather than pages. 300 DPI is the usual floor for print, and knowing that the file will be roughly sixteen times the size of a 96 DPI version is part of planning for it.
A picture opens instantly in a message, where a PDF needs a viewer and a download. For a single page that only has to be looked at, an image is genuinely the better format.
Diagrams, figures and worked examples get lifted into worksheets and slides. Exporting the page and cropping is quicker than any attempt to extract the elements, and it keeps the original layout.

Screen use needs 96 to 150 DPI and print needs 300. Picking without knowing means either a soft image that cannot be printed or a file four to sixteen times larger than the job required.
JPG for photographs, PNG for text and diagrams. The wrong choice is visible either as fuzz around letters or as a file several times too large, and both are decided before the export runs.
Ranges cost nothing and save a great deal. A range of 1-3 finishes in seconds where a full eighty-page export at 300 DPI takes minutes and produces a zip nobody wants to download.
If the result has to be read, searched or quoted from, keep it a PDF. Rasterising is irreversible, and recovering the words afterwards means OCR, which is slower and never quite accurate.
Run a single page at your chosen settings and look at it. Two seconds of checking is a better use of time than discovering a resolution problem after a long export and repeating the whole thing.
Browsers throttle or silently block repeated automatic downloads, so a burst of forty images can arrive incomplete with no visible error. One archive always arrives whole.
The images cannot be turned back into a document. As long as the PDF exists you can re-export at different settings; once it is gone, the pixels are all there is.
Avoid these
Converting a document to images to make it smaller
It usually makes it much larger, and destroys the text layer on the way. Compress the PDF instead — that keeps it a document and is the operation that actually reduces size.
Exporting when you meant to split
If the goal is one file per page rather than one picture per page, split the PDF. Splitting keeps text selectable, quality perfect and files small; exporting gives up all three permanently.
Choosing 300 DPI for something that will only be viewed on screen
Use 96 to 150. A screen cannot show the extra detail, so the only effects are a slower export and a file several times larger — sixteen times, between 96 and 300.
Choosing 96 DPI for something that will be printed
Print at 300. A 96 DPI image looks acceptable on screen and visibly soft on paper, and the mistake is only discovered after printing, when re-exporting means finding the original again.
Using JPG for pages of small text
Use PNG. JPEG compression works by discarding fine detail, which is exactly what letterforms are made of, so text pages come back with a visible haze around every character.
Uploading confidential documents to an online converter
Rendering is easily done in the browser, so there is no reason to send a contract or a statement to someone else's server for it. Anything uploaded is subject to that provider's retention policy.
Deleting the PDF once the images exist
Keep it. Images cannot be converted back into a document, so the PDF is the only version you can re-export, edit or search. The images are an output, not a replacement.
